Here we have a rather handsome looking 5" gauge LNER A3, presented as no.61007 'Royal Lancer'. This is actually a very nicely made full 3 cylinder model, with some lovely model engineering finesse in it's construction. We've only popped up a couple of preliminary photos because she is going through the workshop for a full new set of piston and valve rings as well as a light general bottom end overhaul, at which point we will freshen up the black paint and just give her a general tidy up. At that point we will do a full set of proper photos unless someone has already stepped forward to be her new owner of course!
Mechanically as you've no doubt just read, she will be refreshed and ready to go, and the machining work done by the builder is lovely, crisp and neat. The running boards have little trap doors in them for oiling the motion from the top, and they drop closed with that reassuring 'pop' that you only get with a model where the builder knew how to make things properly! The boiler is of course copper and silver soldered, comes with a large wedge of old certificates back to the original date of construction which was 1990. She can of course come with fresh certificates and will be tested and ready to hit the rails.
