Here we have a 5" gauge GWR Saint, number 29xx 'Saint David'. The locomotive was a consistent performer for it's builder who ran the loco regularly until sadly passing away. Cosmetically the firebox cladding is a little over size and clumsy, and engine bears the bumps and scuffs of use, but it’s been through our workshop and the running gear has been refurbished so we’re confident it runs well. We took the opportunity to paint the inside of the frames as well,.... so ignore the fact that in the pre-workshop photographs some of the injector plumbing was removed removed, that has all obviously been sorted now here in the works.
The lubrication is mechanical and under the front running board, and there's also some nice little oil pots to enable ease of lubrication to the axleboxes and other internal motion. Fitted with an injector a hand pump in the tender. The professionally built silver soldered copper boiler was made in 2010 by Western Steam, and comes with all it's history having come to us directly from the loco's builder, and of course comes fully freshly tested both hydraulically and in steam.
A rare model a GWR Saint, and because of that rarity they are usually both tidier looking models and significantly more expensive than this example, so it's an opportunity to get a decent running rare GWR prototype for what is essentially Manor or LNER B1 'Springbok' money.
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
