Here we have one of the finest 3" Atkinson Undertype that you're ever likely to see. Certainly an exhibition quality medal winning standard of model engineering, built by the late George Bradbury. George was a prolific model engineer, whom I knew personally as he was a good friend of my Grandad's. George built a Gold medal 3" Clayton, a 2" Clayton, and a really lovely Hunslet, all of which we sold a couple of years ago, and he also built a couple of smaller 3 1/2" gauge locos, but his main passion was aero and stationary engines, of which he built many.
The Atkinson was initially unsteamed and on display during George's life, but a subsequent owner has steamed her a few times. There's the odd paint chip and scuff here and there, and the cab has been carefully modified so that you can drive more easily, but beyond that she's in much the same immaculate condition as she was when I last saw her.
The silver soldered copper boiler can of course come with fresh hydraulic and steam certificates, and you can then choose either to run her or put her back on display as a fine example of model engineering.
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
