Here we have the well known 10 1/4" gauge Rio Grande K36 from Audley End Miniature Railway. ‘Sara Lucy’ is a 2-8-2, based on the Rio Grande's K36 locomotive number 489. She was built in xxxx by David Curwen.
The loco has been regularly and consistently well maintained both at in the railway's workshops as well as by various external professional companies over the years. Currently she is nearing the end of the life of her tubes and firebox, so the boiler will need to be lifted and that work undertaken. We can of course quote to do that work for you so that you've a clear understanding of the full costs, but as a broad guide there's probably around £10,000 of work there to see the loco with effectively a new boiler and good for the foreseeable future.
She's a really big, powerful and extremely docile commercial passenger hauling loco with a well established place in miniature railway history, and she comes fully tested and certified so fully ready to run.
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
