10 1/4" Sandy River

Here we have the well known 10 1/4" gauge Sandy River 2-6-2 from Audley End Miniature Railway. ‘Lord Braybrook’ (previously ‘Bruce’) is a 2-6-2, based on Sandy River & Rangely Lakes locomotive No.24. Originally built in 1991 by David Curwen, the 120psi boiler being a relatively new one built by Bennets in 2015 and had a Re-tube with new tubeplates in 2021.

The loco has been regularly and consistently well maintained both at in the railway's workshops as well as by various external professional companies over the years, the most recent being re-profiling of the driving wheels by Alan Keef in readiness for the forthcoming season. She's a big, powerful and extremely docile commercial passenger hauling loco with a well established place in miniature railway history, and she comes fully tested and certified so fully ready to run.

As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!

We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go.  So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
