Here we have another exceptionally well made model, this time a 3 1/2" gauge freelance pacific locomotive. Built to the 1915 'Gigantic' design by Ernest Twining, the castings and drawings being provided at the time by Bassett Lowke. The design and a detailed description were published by Twining in the July 1st, 8th and 15th of the 1915 Model Engineer, (we've included photos of those articles for background), and having trawled through the Model Engineer we've only managed to find evidence of one other 'Gigantic' having been built. That one was cosmetically much altered from the original design, whereas this one seems to us exactly as Twining drew in every detail. It certainly has the feel of authenticity to it and we can't help being drawn to the possibility that this is actually Ernest Twining's original model.
We are super busy here in the workshop at the moment, so apologies for the lack of written information here at the moment! We have an ever increasing backlog of models that we need to get listed up for sale, and so have prioritised getting them photographed, priced and live for sale. As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
