Here we have a lovely little Prize winning 3 1/2" gauge model of an early Highland Railway 2-4-0 'Raigmore' as rebuilt in 1869. Built by the late Harry Clyne, who won many awards for his model engineering.
The model is in as new condition having never been steamed, and is actually not quite finished to the point where it could be run yet. Although the silver soldered copper boiler looks solidly made and appears perfectly serviceable, it looks as though at some point Harry decided to finish it off cosmetically for display, even though the time and effort had already been invested making the bottom end and boiler to work. We think it would need a degree of stripping down in order to complete all the finishing off and plumbing jobs to commission it to actually steam. The twin safety valves are a lovely feature of the design, although again, they are currently not made to work, and there is no method of water injection to the boiler fitted or indeed lubrication as yet.
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
