Here we have another rare find. A fully detailed 3 1/2" gauge Midland Railway bogie carriage. This is a really old model, and sadly the history has been lost at some point during it's life. It's come to us from a large collection, and has been with the same owner for at least 40 years. It's got what an estate agent would call 'a lovely patina', but what the rest of us would call 'the need for a little TLC! That said, it's a very detailed model, all the doors open, the handles and locks doing exactly what handles and locks should do! All the door windows slide up and down and even have wooden frames around their glass! The toilet doors open, the corridor doors slide, and even the toilet lid and seat are on hinges!
On the bottom half the bogies are a real credit to the builder, and are not only fully sprung and working just like the real thing, but the vacuum brakes are all plumbed in with working cylinders and pipework should your loco be able to generate the necessary vacuum. We've tested it and believe it or not it all still works! The battery boxes both have switches on them and the carriage has at some point been wired up for lights, although the actual bulbs have long since been lost. The previous owner used to use this carriage on his ground level 3 1/2" garden railway. The photos will tell a more complete story, but certainly a fascinating little gem from history that would benefit hugely from finding a new owner to show it the care and attention it deserves.
