5″ Fletcher Jennings

Here we have a really attractive little thing!  She’s a 5″ gauge Gemma (Neilson Saddle tank) with a twist.  The bones appear to be Gemma, frames, wheels, cylinders, valve gear and boiler.  But then the platework and cosmetics have converted it to a rather handsome side tank which we think has been a pretty successful attempt to nudge the loco toward a Fletcher Jennings, perhaps similar to Baxter, as currently preserved on the Bluebell Railway.

It’s well on the way, indeed most of it is there, and except for some fittings, a bit of plumbing and a paint job there doesn’t appear to be a great deal left to do to get this one over the finish line.  The silver soldered copper boiler looks competently made and has been shell tested to twice working pressure.  The bottom end will run nicely on air, and the bodywork has been formed with both skill and a good aesthetic eye by a model engineer who knew what they were doing.  It’s a really nice, unique little project that deserves the final little bit of work to see it up and running.

As with most of our models, what you see isn’t necessarily what you get!  We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go.  So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that’s just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
