5” GNSR Cowan goods

Here we have a rather rare little thing.  A Great North of Scotland Railway 4-4-0 'Cowan Goods' loco from 1866.  Built by Neilson's in Glasgow to William Cowan's design. In it's 'as designed' form this is in our view a very pretty locomotive from the start of the era where the Victorian locomotive designers found their sweet spot. This model is the loco presented in it's rebuilt format with a full cab and slightly 'modernised' features, and it's a little plain as a model too, which together with the bright green paint detracts a little from what is actually a competently manufactured model.

Generally speaking this is a nicely made thing, if perhaps a little chunky for an early 1860s loco.  Machining work is crisp and tidy,...... and although she's not going to be winning any model engineering competitions, everything has been nicely made to work, and we expect that it will!

As always the silver soldered copper boiler can come with fresh hydraulic tests and a fresh steam test so she is ready to play.

As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!

We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go.  So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
