Here we have a 5" gauge LMS Stanier Duchess, 6233 'Duchess of Sutherland'. Based around some parts from the Modelworks Duchess kit, but ultimately much modified and completed by a model engineer around a professional silver soldered boiler from GB Boilers.
Modelworks actually went into liquidation halfway through the production of the Duchess kits. It was messy, and ultimately what Duchess parts were ultimately delivered to the customers seem to have been limited to the bottom end and tenders. We don't think any boilers were produced, and similarly most of the top end parts and detailing kits never reached production. Consequently there are relatively few Modelworks Duchess part builds out there, and even fewer that have been subsequently completed by model engineers. This one has been done pretty effectively, with obvious attention paid to fettling and refining the kit built parts during that build process.
Fitted with a pair of injectors as well as a hand pump in the tender. Twin ram axle pumps and footplate mounted bypass valve. Lubrication is mechanical.
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
