Here we have a brand new LNER Gresley A3, 4472 Flying Scotsman. Technically the model is slightly a halfway house between the original Gresley A1 and the later A3, the cab being the earlier one, the dome not being the banjo and various other detailing differences, but the model is neatly made, brand new and sporting a brand new professional copper boiler. We lit the first fire in her a couple of weeks ago to see what needed to be tweaked and commissioned, and were pleasantly surprised that there's not too much needing to be done here in the works before she can go to a new home.
She's a full 3 cylinder of course, and although the timing could do with a mild 'tweak' at the moment, she runs very smoothly and will crawl along at a very lovely slow pace. There are two injectors and a hand pump in the tender. Lubrication is mechanical and under the front as usual. The steam brakes are fitted and working as well. All in all a very tidy, and brand new model of the Flying Scotsman. Hopefully the photos (to be added very shortly) will tell you the full story.
