Here we have another nicely made LNER B1 to the every popular Martin Evan's 'Springbok' design. Although the engine was finished a good number of years ago, it's only been run by the builder sporadically, and mostly on a very short length of track laid up and down in his garden. He reckoned it had not even really been run in fully yet, and indeed, although everything is tight, with little or no slop in any of the valve gear, it freewheels with ease.
This was the builders first and only foray into model engineering, and you certainly wouldn't know it. There are several nice details, a lovely water float level indicator in the tender and certainly things like the opening toolboxes on the tender click shut with a very precise and satisfying motion. As does the particularly substantial lubricator on the running board.
It hasn't been steamed for a good few years, so will want a small degree of re-commissioning, but it's fundamentally a very nicely machined model, and would paint up into whatever livery and identity you fancy. Indeed we are tempted to do it ourselves, but at present we just don't have space in the workshop to do it.
