5'' OS Stevensons Rocket

Here we have a brand new and as yet un-steamed 5" gauge Stephenson's Rocket by OS models in Japan.  Quite a rare model these, and unlike many 'kit built' locomotives, all OS locomotives are exceptionally well engineered, collectible and certainly don't carry the stigma attached to other commercially made products.  We've had several OS locos before, and are always impressed by the level of engineering and finish that they achieved.  It's covered in beautiful little lost wax castings to give it the detail, which give it a really attractive 'x' factor for anyone wanting a very lovely model.

This one seems to have been professionally assembled and finished, we suspect by OS themselves, as it looks pretty much identical to the model in all the OS literature. This actual model has another claim to fame, being the actual engine featured in Keith Appleton's YouTube channel in the series that he made about the OS Rocket. We've posted a link to Keith's channel below.

We've had a few of these over the years that we've run, and can confirm that it's a fun little beast that does go well, as well as looking very cool! They have very little weight, even with the cast weight on the front, so don't expect it to pull any significant loads (a single adult is right on it's limit), and from an operational point of view the leaf springs are a little on the soft side, meaning that just like the full size, the model suffers from lateral hunting, that if used in anger would prove alarming! The addition of a tiny rubber block under to leaf spring to damp the rock is all it needs to transform this lovely example of model engineering into a viable performer.

As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!

We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go.  So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
