Here we have a nice little,.... well to be fair,.... not so little, 5" gauge Orenstein & Koppel 0-4-0 tank engine, built from the well respected Polly models kit. This one was a favourite performer on a private garden railway up until about 4 years ago when due to ill health the railway fell into disuse. Cosmetically she could do with the odd touch up here n there, certainly the paintwork is 'functional' rather than beautiful, and there is a little surface rust on the smokebox where the paint has chipped off with the heat. It's nothing significant, and if we get a few moments we will more than likely rub it back and give it a waft of HT black ourselves before it leaves.
Mechanically she is still nicely engineered. The valve gear is well made, and finished, with only small levels of wear and tear. The boiler is a professional copper job from Polly, which comes with it's original certificates as well as a full fresh 4 year hydraulic certificate and fresh annual steam cert should you wish to play straight away!
There is an injector fitted, as well as a bypass mechanical axle pump, and then the emergency hand pump in the side tank. Lubrication is mechanical with a simple tank on the running boards. All in all, a nice chunky loco, and quite a rare one at that, which has the power to pull a decent load, and the simplicity to mean that you're not in the workshop all the time trying to fix it!
