Here we have a rather sweet little 5" gauge 'Alice' Class quarry Hunslet. This is a professionally made model supplied by Maxitrak. The model has been steamed several times, but is still in pretty much as new condition.
The boiler is of course a professionally made copper silver soldered one, and has a current hydraulic test. She will of course be given a fresh annual steam test before she leaves us so that she's ready for you to play. Whilst the loco is quite simply constructed, and concessions have clearly been made for ease of commercial production,.... (the rods are all laser cuts rather than machined up,.... the springs are all silhouette cut outs rather than individually leaved fabrications),.... the net result is extremely neat and convincing. Everything is certainly very crisp and well executed.
There is an axle pump fitted with footplate bypass valve and a hand pump on the footplate as well. Lubrication is Maxitrak's simple displacement one fitted under the front running board.
There's no escaping the fact that it's a very cute little thing and is a thousand pounds less expensive than a new one!
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
