5" Rail Motor

Stock code L051030

Here we have an interesting little beast!  A 5" gauge Don Young Railmotor, all dressed up with various 'colonial' style clothes together with a neat little tender to finish the job off.  As you can see from the photos she's a little scruffy, and has clearly been enjoyed!  A double edged sword, as although it certainly makes a loco look cosmetically tired, it's probably because it works well and is fun to drive!  Mechanically she'll be put through the workshops here as most of the locos are, so she'll be good to go again and the boiler (copper and silver soldered as usual) will come with a fresh hydraulic test and a fresh steam test so all should be safe and well there too.

Fitted with an injector, a crosshead pump on the right hand side together with a footplate mounted bypass valve and of course the ubiquitous hand pump in the tender.  Lubrication is mechanical in the big reservoir on the side.  Generally speaking, although this one isn't going to be bringing back any medals from the exhibition circuit when the world finally opens, everything works as it should, it'll run round your track perfectly well, and it's definitely got a charm and character to it,...... and you're unlikely to ever have that awkward moment where two of turn up at the club with the same loco!

As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!  We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go.  So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
