Here we have a 5" gauge GNR Stirling 8' Single. No arguments please,.... the most beautiful locomotive design ever penned! 😉 This is a nicely made example, all be it a little cosmetically tired. Mechanically she's in good condition though, being the subject of a recent re-build and spruce up she runs very well and is fully ready to hit the track and be enjoyed. 666 is in actual fact absolutely accurate, the full size locomotive being one of the last couple built in the first batch between 1870 and 1872. Modeled here in her later closed in splasher form, but prior to Ivatt's re-boilering with domed boilers which obviously ruined the smooth lines.
The model has a pair of injectors fitted as well as a hand pump in the tender. There has been an axle pump fitted previously as well, and the eccentric is still on the axle,.... the pump and strap though is included in a bag, as the previous owner must have felt that the model was more free running without it. Lubrication is mechanical, and hidden under the front running board as you can see in the photos.
The boiler is copper and silver soldered, and comes fully in ticket and ready to play.
