7 1/4" Bagnall

Here we have a a little twist on the 7 1/4" gauge Bagnall theme! Based upon the published design by MJ Engineering this loco has the simpler Hackworth valve gear and side tanks, similar in feel to the 2' gauge Rishra based at Leighton Buzzard. This is a fairly chunky and utilitarian build, but obviously solidly engineered to do the job. There are a few sensible touches including things like the large remote oil reservoirs on the rear of the side tanks to get oil into the axle boxes and nice filter boxes in the water tanks.

Lubrication is mechanical and easy to access and fill. Water is supplied through a pair of injectors as well as a hand pump on the footplate. There is a chunky steam brake too and a vacuum ejector for vacuum train brakes. The steel boiler was built in 1998, and has a mix of professional and club boiler certification paperwork running all the way back to 2003. Ultra sonic testing shows all plate thicknesses to still be very good, and it of course comes with a fresh hydraulic test as well as a fresh steam test to make sure all is well and ready to go.

As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!

We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go.  So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
